Uttarkashi: Police post to be built in Nelang, aims to strengthen vigilance in Indo-China border villages
A proposal has been sent to build new police posts in Uttarkashi, including Nelang near the Indo-China border. This plan will strengthen security, reduce dependence on revenue police, and bring relief to residents of remote villages with better law and order services.
Uttarkashi: The policing system in Uttarkashi district is set to become stronger, especially in border and remote villages.
A proposal has been sent to the government to build six new police outposts, including one in Nelang near the India-China border.
From Revenue Police to Regular Police
Large parts of Uttarkashi are currently under the revenue police system, which has limited powers compared to regular police. With the new plan, many villages will be transferred to regular police outposts. This includes Nelang-Jadung, which will now come under Harshil police station.
New outposts in remote areas
According to the proposal, police outposts will be built in Nelang (Harshil police station), Pipli Manjkot (Kotwali), Jogat and Banchaura (Dharasu), Bernigad (Purola), and Doni (Mori). These areas are far from main police stations, and residents often travel 50 to 80 kilometers to report cases. The new posts will save time and provide quick help.
Strengthening border vigilance
The construction of a police post in Nelang is especially important because it lies close to the India-China border. With stronger policing, the vigilance of the Army, ITBP, and local police will increase. This will help in maintaining security, supporting disaster management, and protecting villagers in sensitive areas.
Relief for Vibrant Villages
Villages like Jogat in Chinyalisaur, Banchaura in Dharasu, and Doni in Mori are vibrant but remote. People here face difficulties in reaching police stations during emergencies. The new outposts will bring law and order services closer to them, ensuring safety and confidence among residents.
Statement from Police
Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Upadhyaya confirmed that the proposal has been submitted to the government. He said, "Six new police outposts, including Nelang, have been proposed. Once approved, construction will begin soon. This will strengthen policing and benefit border and remote villages.”
Government’s focus on both security and public service
The plan to build police outposts in Uttarkashi reflects the government’s focus on both security and public service. Stronger policing will not only help in border vigilance but also improve daily life in villages by reducing crime and ensuring faster response.
For the people of Uttarkashi, especially those living in Nelang and other remote areas, this proposal brings hope of better safety and stronger connections with the state’s policing system.
