New Delhi: In a shocking case reported from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh, a woman jumped off a roof after a tiff with her husband. The entire incident was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media. The woman however survived the fall and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Husband dared woman to jump off
In a chilling video, the woman and her husband can be seen arguing with each other. During the course of the argument, the man can be seen repeatedly daring the woman to jump off the roof. Eventually, the woman does jump off from the roof of the building. She landed on the ground with a loud thud and suffered injuries, said a report in NDTV.
The woman has been identified as Archana, who was married to Sonu, 6 years back. The couple have 2 children, aged 4 years and 2 years. THe family of the woman alleged that the incident was a result of harassment, that she suffered at the hands of her in-laws. They said that they had spent Rs 10 lakh on the wedding of their daughter, but Sonu's family was reportedly not happy and demanded more money, even after years of marriage.
The woman's family claimed that the in-laws asked them to pay Rs 5 lakh and also gift their son a Royal Enfield motorcycle. Archana was reportedly being mentally and physically tortured when the demand was not fulfilled, the family said.
In a police complaint, Archana's brother Ankit also said that his sister was being physically abused by Sonu's brother Pramod. He claimed that when her sister reported the matter to her husband and mother-in-law, they asked her to keep her mouth shut about the charges.
In the complaint, Archana's brother also said that her in-laws threatened to kill his sister's children on September 1. She then reportedly responded by saying that she would jump off the roof before anything happened to her children. The in-laws and her husband instead of stopping her, reportedly egged her on to jump. The woman then jumped off the roof of the house. The woman's family said a neighbour of Archana shot the video and sent it to them.
The incident was reported from Aligarh's Dakauli village in the Gonda area. The police said that the woman has been hospitalized and they have recorded her statement. Investigations are on in the case and appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for the incident, they added.
