New Delhi: A 45-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and attempted suicide at his home in West Bengal's Asansol on Monday. He reportedly poisoned his 75-year-old mother, Juthika Das, along with their three pet dogs, before slitting his own wrist.
The police broke into the house after neighbours grew suspicious as it remained locked all day. Inside, they found the lifeless bodies of Juthika and the three dogs, while the man, identified as Aurobindo Das alias Pushan, was discovered in a critical condition with wrist injuries. He was rushed to the district hospital and is currently battling for his life.
Family under financial stress
According to reports, the Das family had been under severe financial stress. Their house had been mortgaged to a financial institution, and they were also embroiled in a land and financial dispute with their tenant, Nilam Burnwal, who has since been arrested.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Aurobindo was mentally distressed due to ongoing financial troubles and personal disputes. Just before the incident, he had reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to a friend, naming three to four individuals. This message is now an important part of the investigation.
Tenant arrested, probe underway
Police are questioning Burnwal and are also probing the financial and legal angles surrounding the tragedy.
