New Delhi: In West Bengal's Ranaghat, an Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) has found himself in the soup for making a controversial remark about women drinking alcohol. The ASP, Laltu Halder, made the remark while addressing a public event.
Halder, while speaking at the public event, expresses his 'shame' at witnessing women consuming liquor in front of everyone during a procession. In a viral video, he can be heard saying, "I feel ashamed to say this. In a procession, young women were seen drinking alcohol while standing on the road. If this is considered the glory of a procession, then I condemn such a procession."
He also commented on social order and women’s conduct. The ASP said, "Men are bound to behave mischievously." The police personnel added, "It is women’s duty to restrain them. But now, it is the women themselves who are drinking and creating chaos. As a result, society is heading towards ruin." It is not yet known whether the authorities have taken any action against the cop.
Not just that, but Halder has also defended his comments and said, “I was only referring to the situation during Kali Puja in Santipur. I shared my personal experience of how some young women were seen drinking openly there. I only spoke about what I witnessed during the Bama Kali idol immersion in Santipur. If people behave indecently after drinking, can the police not say anything about it?”
