West Bengal SIR: 11,472 more voters found ineligible, names likely to be provisionally deleted

As per the Election Commission, a total of 6,578,058 notices have been issued so far. Of them, hearing has been completed for 930,229 voters. Only after hearings are completed, the EC will update the provisional list of ineligible voters.

Kolkata: A total of 11,472 voter names are likely to be deleted from the West Bengal Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. As per the hearings conducted under the SIR, a large number of voters are ‘ineligible’

As per the Election Commission, a total of 6,578,058 notices have been issued so far. Of them, hearing has been completed for 930,229 voters. Only after hearings are completed, the EC will update the provisional list of ineligible voters.

Before this, a total of 5.8 million names were already deleted from the draft electoral roll. Apart from them, close to 3 million voters have been put under “no mapping" category. As per reports, a little over 900,000 voters were called for a hearing, of whom 11,472 voters were found to be ineligible, as per News 18.

Across districts, the commission generated a total of 6,578,058 notices, while 7,419,356 cases are still pending. Among the generated notices, 3,249,091 cases have been delivered. Even as hearings were conducted around 9,30,000 cases, the total number of pending cases stood at 1,414,180.

Nadia recorded the highest number of ineligible voters

Nadia district recorded the highest number of ineligible voters with 9,228. Notices have been issued to 494,532 voters in the district. Of them, 290,923 voters have received notices.

In Kolkata South and Bankura, no voter is ineligible so far. While in Kolkata, South 36,561 notices were generated, in Bankura, 163,357 notices were issued.

Other districts have reported low cases. Among them include Cooch Behar with 10 cases, Darjeeling 2, Jalpaiguri 4, Malda 15, Dakshin Dinajpur 195, and Uttar Dinajpur 2.
