Kolkata: It was late at night in West Bengal, and the otherwise bustling Kharagpur station wore a deserted look. There were not many passengers at the station when a train entered from the direction of Andhra Pradesh. A few porters in the station became busy. However, despite many people getting off the train, the porters did not pay attention to any of them.

They were waiting for someone special. A few moments later, that's what happened. A man got off the train with a minor. Immediately, the coolies ran towards him. Their activity was not exactly like that of coolies. They were not coolies at all. It was a team of police from South 24 Parganas Kultali police station. They arrested the person. But, what exactly led to the arrest and who was that minor?

A case of kidnapping

The name of the arrested person is Brindavan Mondal, and the minor named Soumen Mondal is the son of his sister-in-law. Brindavan has been accused of kidnapping Soumen, and as per police, his wife had left home and moved to her sister's house.

So, he kidnapped his sister-in-law's son and took him to Andhra Pradesh. From there, he called his in-laws and threatened that if they did not send his wife back, he would kill the child. He also warned that if they informed the police, he would throw the child off the train.

After receiving the threat, Soumen's mother Shampa Mondal filed a complaint with Kultali police station. The police formed a team and called Brindavan through family members. They told him that his wife would be sent back home. In exchange, he had to come to Kharagpur station and return the child. Brindavan agreed to this condition. However, he threatened that if the police were informed about anything, the result would not be good.

After that, a police team disguised as coolies reached Kharagpur station. Brindavan and the child reached the station late on Saturday night, and the former was arrested by the police. He has been produced before the Baruipur Subdistrict Court on the same day.

Shampa Mandal, the mother of the kidnapped minor, said, "Didi came to our house after arguing with 'Jamai Babu' (brother-in-law). He called my mother and said, 'Do what you have to do, I am taking Shampa's son away.' She also called my husband and threatened him. My son was eating muri in front of the school gate. He took my son from there. He told my son, 'Let's go home. Many people have come. There will be a meeting. Your mother called."

Soumen Mondal could not say exactly where he was taken. He said, "Meso (Brindavan) took me. He said, ‘Your mother is calling.’ When I said, ‘My house is this way,’ Meso said, ‘Listen to what I have to say.' Then he took me to the station in a car and then to the train. He told me to listen to what he had to say, or he would kick me off the train. He hit me once on the head."

Regarding the allegations against her husband, Brindavan's wife Tumpa Mondal said, "Due to family unrest, I don't want to live with my husband. He always gets drunk and beats me. He even beats my eldest daughter. I moved here because I don't want to live like this. That's why he took my sister's son and left. He threatened us, saying that if we don't get married, he will kill my sister's son."

Brindavan, who has been arrested on charges of kidnapping, said, "My sister-in-law did not send my wife and children back for two months. They kept them. Because of that, I was forced to take my sister-in-law's son. I knew that if I took him, she would send my wife and children back."
