New Delhi: A Congress MLA from Karnataka and a former minister has come under sharp criticism for his derogatory remarks against a woman journalist who flagged medical apathy in Joida taluk (district subdivision) of Uttara Kannada district and asked him when people there would get a hospital.
RV Deshpande, who is the MLA form Haliyal in the district, made a shocking statement when the wold journalist told him that there was no proper hospital in the area and people, especially pregnant women, face difficulty due to lack of any health facility there. What followed was a distasteful remarks by the the legislator as he responded to her by saying, "Don't worry, we will get yours done elsewhere.
Congress MLA's shocking remarks
The Congress MLA at first said that he will get "her delivery" in (neighbouring) Haliyal. When the journalist, apparently refused to believe his reply, asked him, "What, sir?" This time, he smiled and winked at people around him before saying, "When it's time for your delivery, we will get it done."
The journalist ignored his response and replied that the people of the area are in dire need of a hospital and that the MLA should get it built in this term itself.
BJP hits out at legislator
Meanwhile, BJP lashed out at the Congress MLA saying his remarks were proof of his party's "mentality" and moral bankruptcy". "Insulting mothers and women is not politics, it's moral bankruptcy. (Leader of the Opposition) Rahul Gandhi talks about love and respect but his leaders spread hate. This double speak must be exposed. Congress' politics is about insult, abuse and family attacks... They speak today, deny tomorrow and repeat the next week," BJP spokesperson Vijay Prasad said.
