New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has imposed 50 per cent tariff on India for purchasing Russian oil, and he is also mulling imposing levies on China for the same. Vice President JD Vance has revealed this and added that Trump is yet to make "any firm decisions".

While giving an interview to Fox News on Sunday, Vance said, "Well, the President said he's thinking about it, but he hasn't made any firm decisions." Notably, he said that after Vance was asked whether Trump would impose levies on China, like he did on India for the purchase of Russian oil. Last Wednesday, Trump announced a total 50 per cent tariff on India over its purchase of Russian oil.

Vance further said, "Obviously, the China issue is a little bit more complicated because our relationship with China affects a lot of other things that have nothing to do with the Russian situation," and that he is "reviewing his options, and of course, going to make that decision when he decides.”

At first, the US imposed 25 per cent tariffs on India. Later, Trump imposed another 25 per cent tariff on India for buying Russian oil. The total tariffs imposed on India now stand at 50 per cent, the highest along with Brazil among countries trading with the US. From August 27, the extra 25 per cent tariff will come into effect.

Will there be a Ukraine peace deal?

Vance also commented on the upcoming meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He said both Russia and Ukraine would probably remain unsatisfied over their negotiated deal if it happens.

He said, "It's not going to make anybody super happy. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians, probably, at the end of the day, are going to be unhappy with it." The meeting between Trump and Putin is set to take place on August 15 in Alaska to bring the Ukraine war to an end.
