New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested 2 people, a woman and her boyfriend for allegedly killing a man and dumping his body in a drain in Haryana. The man was the woman's husband, police said. According to a report in NDTV, the murder happened in July 2024.

The woman has been identified as Soniya (34) who was reportedly in a relationship with 28-year-old Rohit. This relationship and the abusive nature of the victim towards Soniya led to the murder, said officials.

The victim was identified as Pritam Prakash (42), who was a known history sheeter in Alipur. He has several criminal cases registered against him, including those under the Arms Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court had even declared him a proclaimed offender, reported NDTV quoting Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora.

On July 5,2024, Pritam reached Soniya's sister's home to pick her up. The couple reportedly had an argument and he left the place angry. Soniya then offered her sister's brother-in-law, Vijay Rs 50,000 and asked him to kill Pritam. Later that night, Pritam came back to the house and pleaded with Soniya to let him stay there. She agreed.

The same night, Vijay killed Pritam and dumped his body in a drain near Agwanpur. The man even sent Soniya a video of the body on social media, which was however later deleted.

On July 20, 15 days after the murder, Soniya lodged a missing persons complaint with the police. In her complaint she said that her husband had gone out for some work and nevr returned. Following the complaint, police started searching for Pritam. It was initially being treated as a regular missing person complaint. But suspicion arose after the investigating team found that there were no digital footprints of the man for several weeks.

During the course of the investigation, the police found the mobile phone linked to Pritam which had been reactivated nearly a year after the man went missing. Their search led them to Rohit in Sonipat. On being questioned, the man initially tried to mislead the police team, but later confessed to the crime.

Rohit told police that he had been in a relationship with Soniya and they together conspired to kill Pritam. He told them that Soniya paid Vijay to kill her husband.

Soon after the disappearance of Pritam , the Haryana Police had recovered a body, but it remained unidentified. It was when Delhi Police connected the dots and realised that the body could be that of Pritam. They will now use DNA sample testing to find out if the body recovered is actually that of Pritam.

Soniya meanwhile sold Pritam's autorickshaw for Rs 4.5 lakh and handed over his phone to Rohit.

Talking about the case, one police officer said that Soniya married Pritam when she was just 15-years-old. Both families were against the marriage but the couple went ahead and married. They have 3 children, a 16-year-old boy and 2 daughters. The family never reported the marriage (child marriage) to the police and later accepted the relationship.

Rohit got married in April 2025, but continued his extramarital affair with Soniya. He is involved in 4 criminal cases related to arms possession and murder. The man worked as a cab driver.

The police have launched a manhunt to nab Vijay, who is absconding.
