1. Latasil Ganesh Mandir
The Latasil Ganesh Mandir is a historic and revered temple in Assam's capital, Guwahati. Located in the heart of Uzan Bazar, it is considered one of the city's oldest Ganesh temples and is a popular site for devotees, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi. Though the temple today is a modern structure adorned with marble, it originally began as a small, tin-roofed Assamese-style house.
2. Ganeshguri Ganesh Mandir
The Ganeshguri Ganesh Temple is a historic and revered Hindu temple located in the Ganeshguri area, which is named after the deity. The temple, believed to be as ancient as the famous Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, is mentioned in an inscription from 1577 AD as part of the Hedamba Kingdom, suggesting its long history. Lord Ganesh in the temple is considered the protector of Guwahati's entrance.
3. Dwarpal Ganesh Temple
The Dwarpal Ganesh temple is a rock-cut shrine located at the foothills of Nilachal Hill. A part of the larger Kamakhya Temple complex, this rock-carving possibly dates back to the Mahabharata period. Legends state that this path was built by the demon-king Narakasura in a single night. Since Ganesh is traditionally known as Dwarpal or gatekeeper and remover of obstacles, his presence here reinforces his role as the guardian of the sacred site.
4. Narengi Tiniali Ganesh Temple
The Ganesh Temple in Narengi Tiniali is notable for its unique main idol, which is believed to have naturally formed from the roots of an ancient tree. It is located near the intersection of Narengi Tinali and Chandrapur Road.
5. Hatisila Ganesh Temple Panikhaiti
The Hatisila Ganesh Temple, located on the banks of the River Brahmaputra in Panikhaiti, is unique as the natural rock formation resembles the front of an elephant. That is why it got the name Hatisila or elephant rock, as hati means elephant and sila means rock. The idol of Lord Ganesh is a naturally carved rock inside a cave.
6. Shri Shri Ganesh Mandir Jorabat
The Shri Shri Ganesh Temple at Jorabat is located near the border of Assam and Meghalaya, on the outskirts of Guwahati. It is a well-known landmark situated on National Highway 37.
