When a child is fighting cancer, treatment can be tough and take a toll on the entire well-being. So, chemotherapy, radiation, and strong medicines often cause side effects like loss of appetite, nausea, or weakness, which can impact well-being. One of the important factors is the child's nutrition, which should be taken care of. A balanced diet helps children maintain energy, fight infections, heal better, and improve their overall quality of life. Along with prompt intervention, simple changes in diet and daily routine can make a big difference. So, parents, it is the need of the hour to pay attention to the child’s health.

Nutrition and lifestyle tips

  • Take small, frequent meals: Instead of three large meals, offer small portions throughout the day to avoid loss of appetite and maintain energy. So, don’t go overboard when it comes to the diet.
  • High-protein foods: Eggs, pulses, fish, and dairy help rebuild tissues and support growth. So, consulting the expert is a good idea.
  • Colourful fruits and vegetables: These provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that boost immunity and healing and aid quicker recovery.
  • Stay hydrated: Encourage water, coconut water, or fresh soups to prevent dehydration. Avoid drinking cold drinks or juices that are high in sugar and calories.
  • Gentle exercise: Light exercises like walking or stretching (if the doctor allows) can reduce fatigue and improve mood. Adequate sleep helps the body recover and cope with treatment. So, pay attention to these lifestyle factors too. However, heavy exercises are not recommended without a doctor's advice.
  • Avoid junk food: Processed and oily foods may worsen nausea and add little nutritional value. These foods can further cause inflammation in the body.

The last word

Every child’s journey with cancer is different, but good nutrition and healthy habits provide strength. Make sure that the little warrior eats nutritious food and recovers and thrives. Parents, take charge of the child's health right away!
