To honour Laddu Gopal’s birth and to please him, people also offer traditional Krishna Janmashtami prasad called panjiri prasad. It is made with dry fruits and coriander seeds.
Janmashtami special panjiri prasad is super easy to make, and it’s healthy, delicious, and rich with all the goodness of dry fruits. It is particularly served during fasting as it gives the much-needed and essential nutrients and energy to the body. It is served along with panchamrit, and there’s a rule to serve this combo. It has to be always panjiri first and followed by panchamrit.
Janmashtami special panjiri prasad recipe
Here is the simple dhaniya panjiri prasad recipe.
Ingredients
Coriander seeds: ½ cup
- Ghee: 4 tsp
- Makhana/lotus seeds: ½ cup
- Chopped almonds: 2 tbsp
- Chironji: 2 tbsp
- Chopped cashew: 2 tbsp
- Melon seeds: 2 tbsp
- Raisins: 2 tbsp
- Grated dry coconut: 3 tbsp
- Sugar powder: ½ cup
- Cardamom powder: ½ tsp
- A few tulsi leaves
Janmashtami special panchamrit recipe
Cow milk: 1 cup
- Curd: ½ cup
- Sugar: 2 tbsp
- Ghee: 1 tsp
- Honey: 1 tbsp
- Ganga jal: 2 tbsp
- Raisins: 2 tsp
- Cashew: 2 tsp
- Almond: 2 tsp
- Grated dry coconut: 2 tbsp
- Chironji: 2 tsp
- Melon seeds: 2 tsp
- 3 tbsp makhana/lotus seeds
- A few tulsi leaves
Instructions for panjiri prasad
Coarsely grind the coriander seeds and roast in hot ghee on a pan, keeping the flame low until the coriander powder turns aromatic and changes its colour. Let it cool on a plate. Heat 1 tsp ghee and roast ½ cup makhana until these turn crunchy. Place it on the same plate and allow it to cool completely.
Now heat 2 tsp ghee, add 2 tbsp almonds, 2 tbsp chironji, 2 tbsp cashew, 2 tbsp melon seeds, 2 tbsp raisins. Roast until the nuts turn crunchy and golden brown. Add 3 tbsp dry coconut and roast on a low flame. Transfer to the same plate and allow it to cool completely.
Further add ½ cup sugar powder, ½ tsp cardamom powder, and a few tulsi leaves. Combine everything well. Dhaniya panjiri recipe is ready.
Instructions for panchamrit
In a bowl take 1 cup cow milk, ½ cup curd, 2 tbsp sugar, 1 tsp ghee, 1 tbsp honey and 2 tbsp ganga jal. Now add 2 tsp raisins, 2 tsp cashew, 2 tsp almond, 2 tbsp dry coconut, 2 tsp chironji and 2 tsp melon seeds. Add 3 tbsp makhana and few tulsi leaves. Combine everything well and panchamrit is ready.
On the pious occasion of Janmashtami, Lord Krishna will certainly be pleased with panjiri prasad and this will nourish the devotee, observing fast. Happy Krishna Janmashtami!
