New Delhi: Karwa Chauth is one of India's most cherished festivals for fasting, where women keep fast for the whole day without eating or drinking anything for the long life of their husband. Majorly celebrated by the Hindu community, the festival has various rituals such as fasting, eating only for sargi, praying with katha and getting dressed up to look beautiful for their husbands.

No Karwa Chauth is complete without indulging in a sweet treat during the Sargi. A sweet that is traditionally prepared each year for Karwa Chauth is Fenia, which carries the warmth of traditions and adds festive charm in each bite.

Karwa Chauth Fenia Recipe

Ingredients:


  • 1 cup roasted pheni or seviyan (vermicelli)
  • 2 cups full-cream milk
  • 3 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp ghee3–4 cardamom pods (crushed)
  • A few saffron strands (soaked in 1 tbsp warm milk)
  • 8–10 almonds (sliced)8–10 pistachios (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • Silver leaf (varak, optional for garnish)

Method to prepare: 


  • In a heavy-bottomed pan, add milk and bring to a boil for 10 minutes.
  • Add saffron along with crushed cardamom for a fragrant base.
  • Let it simmer and keep it aside to cool.
  • In a separate pan, heat the ghee and roast fenia for 2 minutes.
  • Add roasted fenia to the boiling milk pan and cook it on a low flame.
  • Let it boil until it thickens, and add sugar.
  • Now, gradually add pistachios, almonds, and raisins.
  • Cook for another 3 minutes and turn off the gas.
  • Garnish with nuts and saffron for a flavourful treat.
