New Delhi: As Independence Day 2025 is around the corner, schools across the country will be abuzz with a host of activities from drawing contests to fancy dress competitions. All these activities build children’s confidence, instil unity and teamwork with peers, help them overcome stage fright, enable them to get recognition and help in developing creative skills. Dressing themselves as their favourite freedom fighters is also a learning experience about the life story of those brave hearts. It connects with the freedom warrior they are playing.
For the Independence Day 2025 fancy dress competition, children can dress up in multiple ways. They can portray the freedom fighters, narrate autobiographies of the significant symbols of Indian freedom journey, play modern-day farmers, doctors, engineers, scientists, artists, dancers, singers, Indian armed forces and other people from different fields, who are constantly working selflessly towards the development of the nation, becoming inspirations and preserving the Indian values, traditions and culture.

1. Rani Laxmi Bai
She was one of the prominent figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The queen consort of the princely state of Jhansi from 1843 to 1853, she assumed its leadership after the outbreak of conflict and fought many battles against the British.
2. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
An Indian anti-colonial nationalist, secular humanist, social democrat, statesman, lawyer and politician who was a central figure in India during the middle of the 20th century.
3. Mahatma Gandhi
An Indian lawyer and anti-colonial nationalist, who employed non-violent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India’s independence from British rule. He inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.
4. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose
He was an Indian nationalist whose defiance of British authority in India made him a hero among many Indians.
5. Bal Gangadhar Tilak
Endeared as Lokmanya, he was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and an independence activist. The British colonial authorities called him ‘the father of the Indian unrest’.
6. Kanaklata Barua
She was an Indian independence activist who was shot dead by the Indian Imperial Police of the British Raj while leading a procession bearing the National Flag during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
7. Dress as symbols of the Indian freedom journey
Dressing up as the symbols of the Indian freedom journey, such as the Indian flag, the Ashoka Chakra and narrating the autobiography about its existence will be a unique idea for the Independence Day fancy dress competition.
