New Delhi: Rajasthan boast of the world’s first shrine built in the divine shape of the sacred syllable Om. This breathtaking architectural marvel known as the Om Aakar Temple stands amid the rustic charm of Jadan village in Pali district. A spiritual symbol that resonates through Hindu philosophy, Om represents the essence of the universe, creation, and consciousness. Translating that cosmic vibration into stone and space, this colossal temple is a tribute to Lord Shiva, the deity often linked with Omkar, the primal sound.
Spread across 250 acres, the temple blends devotion with design, spirituality with engineering grandeur. Set up in the traditional Nagara architectural style, the temple is not only a place of worship but a symbol of India’s eternal quest for balance between the spiritual and material worlds. The Om Temple’s design reflects the divine vibration of Om, believed to contain all realms of existence – creation, preservation, and dissolution. The structure, supported by 2,000 intricately carved pillars, rises majestically to 135 feet, crowned with a radiant Shivalinga carved from a rare rhinestone sourced from Dholpur’s Bansi hill. Within its expanse lie 1,008 idols of Lord Shiva, including replicas of the 12 Jyotirlingas. The temple complex also houses 108 rooms, a sacred number in Hinduism that signifies completeness and cosmic harmony.
The Om Temple is the brainchild of Vishwa Guru Maha Mandleshwar Paramahansa Swami Maheswarananda Puriji Maharaj, founder of the Om Ashram. His vision was to create a living embodiment of Om, a sanctuary where seekers could meditate, learn, and reconnect with the universal sound. At the heart of the temple lies the tomb of Guru Madhavanand ji.
Construction began in 1995, and decades later, the temple continues to attract many pilgrims and travellers alike. The presence of an artificial lake beneath the structure symbolises purity and continuity. Visitors can explore the complex between 6 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 8 pm.
