New Delhi: Yam Yamuna temple, also popularly known as Yamuna Dharmraj temple, is one of the oldest temples in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Dedicated to God of Death Yamraj and his sister River Yamuna, the temple is connected to their story when the festival of Bhai Dooj originated. It is said that on this day, Yamraj visited Yamuna. Expressing immense happiness, she fed him a grand meal. After this, they take a bath in holy water and she applies a tilak, the sacred mark on the forehead. In return, he pledged that any brother and sister who take a dip in the Yamuna River and worship them on this day will be freed from their sins and granted liberation.

Following this heart-warming tale of sibling love, many brothers and sisters visit the temple and Yamuna ghat to offer prayers and take a holy dip on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. Best time to visit: The temple is busiest during Bhai Dooj and Raksha Bandhan, when brothers and sisters visit for blessings. You can also visit year-round for a more calm experience.

Connectivity: The temple is about 4.5 km from Mathura Junction Railway Station and 1.3 km from the New Mathura Bus Stand. Vishram Ghat is accessible by auto-rickshaw, bus, or taxi.
