Hartalika Teej is similar to Karwa Chauth as both festivals are dedicated to the bonding of married couples. It is the third and the last of the three Teej festivals that women from different parts of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan celebrate in the Hindu months of Shravan and Bhadrapada. New Delhi: Hartalika Teej is similar to Karwa Chauth as both festivals are dedicated to the bonding of married couples. It is the third and the last of the three Teej festivals that women from different parts of North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan celebrate in the Hindu months of Shravan and Bhadrapada. This year, Hartlaika Teej will be observed on August 26, a day ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The other two Teej celebrations are Hariyali Teej and Kajari Teej. Hartalika Teej vrat is observed on the Tritiya Tithi, Shukla Paksha, Bhadrapada (third day during the waxing phase of the Lunar cycle in Bhadrapada month). To make your Hartalika Teej vrat successful, check out the list here.
Hartalika Teej check list
- A metal plate for keeping the idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati
- A wooden furniture for placing the sculptures of the deities
- A clean cloth, preferably yellow or orange or red, for covering the furniture.
- Natural clay or sand for making the idols of Lord Shiva and Parvati
- One whole coconut with its husk
- One earthen pot with water
- Mango or paan leaves for the pot
- Ghee and lamp
- Incense sticks
- Oil for lighting the lamp
- Cotton wicks
- Camphor
Items for Archana Thaal
- Two whole coconuts with their husk (one each for Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva)
- Paan leaves 2 or 5 each for Lord Shiva and Parvati
- Supari 2 pieces each for Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva
- Banana (two pieces each for Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati)
- Dakshina (a few currency coins or cash offerings for both Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva)
Items for Lord Ganesh
- One set of fruits, paan, supari, coconut and dakshina for Lord Ganesh
- Red hibiscus flowers
- Durva grass
Items for Lord Shiva
- A tray or a plate for keeping all the items together.
- Vilva or Bel leaves
- Banana leaf
- Datura fruits and flowers
- White crown flower
- Shami leaves
- A fresh piece of white cloth

- A tray for keeping all the items together
