This decision has come days after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) gave its nod to the proposal after a submission of the 'Expression of Interest' in March. A release from the Press Information Bureau stated the the Union Cabinet, chaired by prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the proposal of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports for submission of bid for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2030.

The release added that the cabinet also gave its nod to sign the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) along with the required Guarantees from concerned Ministries, Departments and Authorities and sanction of required grant-in-aid to Gujarat Government, in case the bid gets accepted.

August 31 - last date to submit bid

The last date to submit the bid for the event is in next four days, August 31, and the IOA is expected to complete the formalities in next 48 hours, by August 29. India last hosted the CWG back in 2010. The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decided the host country in the last week of November in Glasgow. After Canada pulled out of the race citing budget problems, India's chances of bagging the hosting rights look bright.

India is also aiming at conducting the Olympic Games in 2036 and for that global event too, Ahmedabad is the front-runner.
