New Delhi: Sensational Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history on Friday after smashing the joint-second fastest T20 century by an Indian in Rising Stars Asia Cup. Suryavanshi joined Indian southpaw Rishabh Pant, who also has a 32-ball century under his belt which he scored for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh back in 2018.
Suryavanshi, who at just 14 is a bundle of talent, scored a century against UAE at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on November 14. The opening batter raced to a century in just 32 balls in India's first match at the tournament smashing 10 boundaries and as many as 9 sixes.
The record for the fastest T20 hundred by an Indian is jointly held by Urvil Patel and Abhishek Sharma, both of who scored a century in just 28 balls. After completing a century, Vaibhav went on to add 44 more runs but finally lost his wicket on 144 off 42 balls including 11 boundaries and 15 sixes.
Suryavanshi's knock helps India pile up massive score
His blistering knock helped India pile up a massive total of 297/4 in the stipulated 20 overs, giving a huge target of 298 for UAE to chase. Apart from him, skipper Jitesh Sharma also joined the party smashing a fiery 83-run knock off just 32 balls. Jitesh hammered the UAE bowling with 8 boundaries and 6 sixes.
UAE will need to complete a miracle if they wish to chase the massive total put on by India. Meanwhile, the Boys in Blue will face arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday in what would be a battle between the toughest teams.
Suryavanshi, who made his debut in the India Premier League (IPL) last season, already holds the record for the second fastest century in the competition, which he struck off just 35 balls, when he scored 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.
