After Jay Shahs intervention, injured Pratika Rawal to get World Cup medal

New Delhi: After intervention from ICC chairman Jay Shah, Indian women's cricket layer Pratika Rawal will be awarded the women's World Cup 2025 medal. Rawal, who played a crucial role in India's triumph at the showpiece event, was denied the winner's medal because of her injury bit bow it has been learnt that she would indeed be given the medal.

This confusion happened because opening batter Rawal, who scored well in the league matches of the tournament, missed the knockout games after an injury. As per the rules of the ICC, only players in the fianl 15-member squad at the end of the tournament are eligible to receive a medal but after Shah intervened, the ICC has decided to present her the World Cup medal.

Initially she did not qualify to get the medal as she was replaced by Shafali Verma in the squad. Meanwhile, India beat South Africa by 52 runs in the summit clash to lift the women's ODI World Cup title for the maiden.

ICC to award Rawal a medal

Though Rawal joined the Indian cricket team on a wheelchair during the official celebrations but missed out on a medal but found herself without the World Cup medal. During Team India's felicitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she was seen wearing a support staff medal which sparked an online debate.

According to a report in CNN News18, the matter was personally taken up by ICC chairman Shah who  made sure that she also receives the medal. With the medal now enroute, Rawal’s journey reaches the recognition many felt she deserved from the start. Rawal had a memorable run in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 before an unfortunate injury ended her campaign early. The Indian women's batter scored 308 runs in six innings at an impressive average of 51.33, including a brilliant 122 off 134 balls against New Zealand.
