After WPL snub, Australian great Alyssa Healy announces retirement from all forms of cricket
Regarded as one of the most destructive batters and finest wicketkeepers in the women's game, Alyssa Healy has announced that she will retire in February.
New Delhi: Australian skipper Alyssa Healy has announced that she will bid adieu to all forms of cricket after the home series against India in February. One of Australia's most prominent cricketer, Healy said also confirmed that she will not feature in the T20Is because of the team's preparation for this year's T20 World Cup but will captain the side in the ODIs and one-off day-night Test at Perth.
The decision comes after she found not buyers at the Women's Premier League 2026 auction. The upcoming multi-format home series will be the last assignment where Australia's most beloved cricketer would be seen for the last time. Healy, who happens to be the niece of former Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy, made her international debut in 2010 as a 190-year old in a series against New Zealand.
Healy Australia's full-time captain since 2023
Healy is set to finish with 162 T20Is, 126 ODIs and Test caps for the Australian women's team. She will also end her career with a record 126 dismissals in the shortest format of the game. After taking over as Australia's full-time skipper in 2023 after Meg Lanning's retirement, Healy registered a lot of accomplishments for the side.
The Australian player's most notable accomplishment as a skipper was leading the side in a 16-0 multi-format Ashes whitewash of England. Apart from this, Australia also stormed into the semi-finals in both the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup and the 2025 Women's World Cup under her captaincy.
Regarded as one of the most destructive batters and one of the best wicketkeepers in the women's game, she was part of eight ICC World Cup-winning (six T20 and two ODI) campaigns, also holding several records, including the highest individual score in a World Cup final and the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in women's T20Is.
Among her individual accolades, Healy has won the Belinda Clark Award back in 2019 and two ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year honours (2018 and 2019).
