Australia recorded the highest successful run-chase in Women's ODI World Cup history after they chased down 330 runs with six balls to spare against India at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on Sunday, October 12.
New Delhi: Australia defeated India by three wickets at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on Sunday, October 12. It was the highest successful run-chase in ODI history, as Australia chased down 330 runs.
It was Alyssa Healy's show as she set up the tone of the match with a 142-run contribution from the top. Phoebe Litchfield and Healy made an opening stand of 85 runs in just 68 balls before Shree Charani sent Litchfield back to the pavilion.
India bounced back in the game after Ellyse Perry felt some discomfort and was retired hurt from the game. The Women in Blue made a small comeback by dismissing Beth Mooney and Annabel Sutherland in quick succession.
But Healy held firm and completed her century, the third in World Cups. Tahlia McGrath provided steady support and helped Australia race past 230 runs in 35 overs.
Sneh Rana ended Healy's carnage, and the crowd roared in appreciation, and a ray of hope appeared in the eyes of Indian fans. Australia were needed 66 runs in 67 deliveries when Healy departed.
Sophie Molineux contributed with a couple of boundaries, and Ashleigh Gardner was attacking Indian bowlers from the other end. Amanjot Kaur cleaned up Gardner on 45 runs, and then in the follow-over, Molineux was also dismissed.
Perry, who was retired hurt earlier, came to the crease and joined Kim Garth. Perry utilised her experience well and finished the game with six balls to spare.

Earlier, Smriti Mandhana set up the stage with a fabulous half-century. The left-hand opener and Pratika Rawal stitched a record-breaking partnership of 155 runs.
India began their innings steadily, scoring just 23 runs in the first six overs. After that, both openers shifted gears and started taking down the Aussie bowlers.
The Women in Blue made 330 runs with contributions from almost every batter in the innings.
