Bavuma to lead in ODIs against India, Markram to captain T20I side as South Africa announce squads
Fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who has not played an international match since last year's T20 World Cup final against India, was named in the squad for the T20I series.
New Delhi: Temba Bavuma was named as South Africa's skipper in the upcoming three-match ODI series against India while Aiden Markram will captain the side in the T20Is, it was announced on Friday.
Premier South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who is out with a injury in the current Test series as well, will return home to recover from a rib injury that he sustained in a training sessions ahead of the two-match Test series.
Bavuma is currently leading South Africa in the two-match Test series against India. While the first match was won by the visitors, the second games will begin in Guwahati from Saturday. Quinton de Kock, who had recently come out of his ODI retirement, has been named in the squad.
The senior player was named player of the ODI series against Pakistan recently after topping the chart with 232 runs from three innings that included a century and half-century. The biggest exclusion has been that of Luhan de Pretorius, who was the team's highest run-getter in the away ODI series against Pakistan.
Anrich Nortje returns to T20Is
Both the nations will face-off in a three-match ODI series between November 30 to December 6. Meanwhile, batter Aiden Markram will take over the captain's duty from Donnovan Ferreria while also being named in the ODI squad against the Men in Blue. Fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who has not played an international match since last year’s T20 World Cup final against India, was named in the squad for the T20I series.
Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has also returned to the white ball teams after sitting out of the series against Pakistan. South Africa will face India in a five-match T20I series from December 9.
