New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month in Mumbai where some key decisions would be finalised. It is also being learnt that ahead of the AGM, the BCCI will hold a high-level meeting where the names for the board president and vice president would be decided.

According to a report published in the India Today, the names of the candidates for the elections would be finalised in the closed-door meet which would take among a handful of board members. The AGM is scheduled to be held in the last week of September and is likely to witness continuity in some key positions.

The report further mentions that the posts of secretary, joint secretary and treasurer are expected to remain unchanged with the current office-bearers continuing their terms. The elections are to be held for the posts of president and vice-president which could reshape the board's leadership. Meanwhile, if sources are to be believed, Rajeev Shukla, who is the current vice-president, has emerged as one of the most prominent figures in the discussions.

Three possibilities for Shukla

Additionally, the report mentions that for Shukla, three possibilities lie ahead - retaining his present position, getting elevated to BCCI president's role or being handed charge of the IPL chairmanship. Out of three possibilities, Shukla getting elevated to the president's role has many chances of materialising as the post remains vacant.

Roger Binny, the incumbent president, stepped down from the role after turning 70 years old as mentioned in BCCI's rules for cricket administrators. Since then, Shukla has been taking care of the role unofficially and his appointment seems well on the cards for the top post. The final call would only be taken at the all-important meeting as BCCI is yet to finalise any candidate.
