New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah claimed his 16th five-wicket haul in Tests as India bundled out South Africa for a paltry score of 159 runs in the first innings of the first Test match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Opting to bat first, the Proteas failed to make full utilization of their decision as they could not face the disciplined bowling of the Indian side.
Proteas batters Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram made a solid start for the team accumulating 57 runs and just when it seemed that they they would captilise on the superb take off, Bumrah came to haunt the side breaking the opening wicket partnership by removing Rickelton for 23 runs.
It was start of a bad fortune for the visitors as wickets started to tumble at regular intervals leaving no chance for the Temba Bavuma-led side to recover. After removing the prized wicket of Rickelton, Bumrah also dismissed Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi and two players from the tail to complete the devastation.
For the South African side, Markram proved to be the highest scorer with 31 runs while Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi scored 24 runs each. Rickelton's 23 runs also came handy for the Proteas side which just managed a score above 150.
Apart from Bumrah shining with a fifer, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets apiece while Axar Patel also claimed a wicket to complete the destruction. Meanwhile by virtue of his fifer, Bumrah joined the elite list of India bowlers to have registered most fifers for the side in Test matches.
