Travis Head produced one of the greatest knocks in Ashes history to help Australia thrash England by 8 wickets in the first Test in Perth on Saturday to go 1-0 up in the ongoing Ashes 2025-26. Head slammed a sensational knock of 123 runs off 83 balls to help Australia chase down the target of 205 runs in just 28.2 overs as the match ended inside two days.

Promoted to open the innings in the absence of injured Usman Khawaja, Head stole the show with his remarkable batting display in Australia's second innings on Day 2. In a game which saw pacers dominate the proceedings in the first three innings, Head flipped the script with his remarkable knock that will go down as one of the best by an Aussie batter in Ashes history.

Head notched up his hundred off just 69 balls and finished with 123 off just 83 balls, which was studded with 16 fours and four sixes. The Australian opener shared a 75-run opening stand with Jake Weatherald (23) before adding a 117-run stand for the second wicket with Marnus Labuschagne, who scored an unbeaten 51 to take Australia home.

Head achieved multiple milestones with his 123-run knock against England as he smashed the second-fastest ton by any batter in Ashes history. He also set the world record for the fastest-ever century by any batter in the 4th innings chase of a Test match. He also scored the third-fastest ton by an Australian in Test cricket history.

1) Travis Head smashed the fastest Test hundred by any batter in the 4th innings chase of a Test match with his 69-ball ton en route to his 123-run knock against England in Perth.

2) His 69-ball hundred in the Perth Test against England on Saturday is also the second-fastest in Ashes history. Former Australian wicket-keeper batter Adam Gilchrist holds the record for the fastest ton in Ashes history with his 57-ball century against England in Perth in the 2006-7 series.

3) Head's 69-ball ton is the joint-fastest by an opening batter in Test cricket. He equalled the record held by his former Australia teammate David Warner, who scored a century off 69 balls in a Test match against India in Perth in 2012.

4) Travis Head scored the third-fastest century by an Australian in Test cricket history. He is behind Adam Gilchrist (57 balls) and Jack Gregory (69) in the elite list of Aussie batters with the fastest Test tons.

5) Enroute to his 123-run knock, Head also completed 4,000 runs in Test cricket. He also completed 1,000 runs against England in what was his 14th Ashes Test. Head has 4107 runs to his name in 61 Tests at an average of 42.34, including 10 centuries.
