CSKs rising star Ayush Mhatre slams blistering 59-ball 104, notches up second consecutive ton in SMAT
Ayush Mhatre slammed his second successive ton to continue his red-hot form for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 on Sunday.
Ayush Mhatre continued his red-hot form for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 with a second successive ton in his side's clash against Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, November 30. Mhatre notched up his hundred off 58 deliveries and finished with an unbeaten 104 off 59 balls, laced with nine sixes and five fours.
After a brilliant 110-run knock in Mumbai's last game against Vidarbha in India's premier domestic T20 tournament, Mhatre once again showcased why he is among the most highly-rated young batters in the country at present. The blistering ton from the young opener helped Mumbai chase down the target of 160 runs with 4.4 overs to spare at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Mhatre opened the batting with senior batter Ajinkya Rahane during Mumbai's run chase, and the duo provided their team with a strong start, adding 57 runs for the first wicket. The 18-year-old then combined with Suryakumar Yadav, who scored an unbeaten 31, to add an unbroken partnership of 105 runs for the 2nd wicket and take Mumbai home.
The rising CSK star started steadily and took his time in settling down in the middle, before taking the attack to the Andhra Pradesh bowling attack during the chase. Mhatre played some terrific pull shots and displayed his range, with some classy strokes en route to his unbeaten 104 at the Ekana Stadium.
Ayush Mhatre - A star in the making
Much like his India U19 teammate Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Mhatre is a star in the making for India and Chennai Super Kings. The youngster who was roped in by CSK as an injury replacement for skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in IPL 2025 cemented his spot in the side as an opener with his impressive performances in the season.
Mhatre scored 240 runs in 7 matches for CSK at a stunning strike rate of 188.97, including a half-century. He has been retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2026 and is likely to continue opening for them next season. With his remarkable performances for Mumbai in the ongoing SMAT 2025, he is further showcasing why CSK have put their trust in him.
Mhatre broke Rohit Sharma's record to become the youngest player to score a century in all three formats in domestic cricket - first-class, List A and T20s with his 110-run knock against Vidarbha in Mumbai's last game. He made it back-to-back hundreds in the SMAT 2025-26 with his 104 not out against Andra on Sunday.
Mhatre will be hoping to continue his purple patch for Mumbai in the remainder of the tournament as the defending champions aim to retain their SMAT title. The CSK star is currently the highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025-26 with 232 runs in 3 matches at an impressive strike rate of 182.67 in the tournament so far.
