Delhi Capitals (DC) pacer Nandani Sharma claimed her maiden hat-trick in her side's clash against Gujarat Giants (GG) in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 on Sunday, January 11. Nandani picked up four wickets in the final over, including a hat-trick, to help her side bowl out Gujarat Giants for 209 runs in the game.

Playing only the second game in the WPL, Nandani became only the 4th bowler to pick up a hat-trick in the tournament's history. The 24-year-old, who was picked up by Delhi Capitals at her base price of Rs 20 lakh in the WPL 2026 auction last year, etched her name in history with her hat-trick against the Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The DC pacer came out to bowl the 20th over for her side against GG and started by conceding a single against Kanika Ahuja. She dismissed Kashvee Gautam on 14 off 10 balls in the next delivery before conceding a single against Tanuja Kanwar on the third delivery of the over.

Nandani went on to dismiss Kanika, Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Renuka Singh on successive deliveries to complete her maiden WPL hat-trick and finish the over with 4 wickets from it. The DC pacer became the first bowler in WPL history to take 4 wickets in an over. No bowler has managed 4 wickets in an over in the tournament.

Nandani also became only the 2nd Indian and the fourth bowler overall after Issy Wong, Deepti Sharma and Grace Harris to claim a hat-trick in the WPL. England pacer Wong claimed the first-ever WPL hat-trick for the Mumbai Indians against the UP Warriorz in WPL 2023.

Deepti picked up a hat-trick for UP Warriors against Delhi Capitals in WPL 2024, while Harris bagged a hat-trick for her former team UP Warriorz against DC in WPL 2025 last year. Nandini finished her spell with great figures of 5/33 off her four overs to bag her maiden five-wicket haul in the WPL.

Sophie Devine powers Gujarat Giants to their highest-ever WPL total

Star all-rounder Sophie Devine smashed a blistering knock of 95 runs off 42 balls to help Gujarat Giants post a strong totak if 209/10 on the board in 20 overs, their highest total in WPL history. Devine's 95 was laced with eight sixes and 7 fours as she made a mockery of the DC bowling attack, smashing them all around the park.

The veteran New Zealand all-rounder missed out on a well-deserved maiden WPL ton as she fell prey to nervous 90s for the second time in the tournament. Nonetheless, her terrific knock, along with skipper Ashleigh Gardner's 26-ball 49, helped GG cross the 200-run mark in the game.

Devine smoked 32 runs off a single over from Sneh Rana enroute to her 95-run knock to set the record for the most runs by any batter in a single over in the WPL. After beating UP Warriorz by 10 runs in their opener, GG will be hoping to defend the 209-run total successfully against DC to bag their second successive win in the WPL 2026.
