New Delhi: Former South African skipper and Indian Premier League star Faf du Plessis announced that he will not participate in the upcoming edition of IPL 2026 and instead take part in Pakistan Super League (PSL). This will be the first times since last 14 years that the Proteas player won't feature in the cash-rich league.

Plessis took to social media on Saturday to confirm that he will be exploring an opportunity with the PSL instead of the IPL in which he is considered as one of the biggest stars. Du Plessis made his IPL debut back in 2012 for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and rose to fame instantly scoring 398 runs in his first season as a player.

Later he won the IPL title twice with CSK in 2018 and 2021. This move came after the star player was not retained by his 2025 franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) after he endured a bad season by sc0ring just above 200 runs last edition. The South African has vowed to make a return to the league in future.

Faf takes to social media to announce decision

The megastar, who has played for DC, CSK, Rising Pune Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) confirmed the decision on his social media handle X on November 29.

'After 14 seasons in the IPL, I've decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back. This league has been a massive part of my journey,' du Plessis said in a X post.

"I've been lucky to play with world-class teammates, for amazing franchises, and in front of fans whose passion is like nothing else. Fourteen years is a long time, and I'm proud of what this chapter has meant to me. India has a special place in my heart, and this certainly isn't a goodbye - you'll see me again,' he added.
