But Gill won't be a part of it after picking up a neck sprain during batting in on the second day and was admitted to a hospital before being discharged on Sunday, when India lost the match by 30 runs.

"He has acute neck pain, and we're not allowed to further go to details about the injury. He has to keep continuing wearing the neck collar," a source in Cricket Association of Bengal told PTI.

"He has been advised three-four days rest and not to take flight. In this situation, he is not advised to travel to Guwahati. But we are monitoring his progress on a daily basis and the picture will be clearer by Tuesday."

Focus on workload

Gill was unable to bat in the second innings as India folded for 93 runs in chase of a 124-run target on the third day of the match on Sunday.

The Indian team will travel to Guwahati on Wednesday with head coach Gautam Gambhir saying that Gill was "still being assessed" by the physio and medical staff.

Gill's absence could open up a slot for either B Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal. the top-order batter had skipped a Test against New Zealand in October 2024 with a neck spasm.

His latest injury puts his workload into focus as he has played across formats regularly since IPL 2025 and was among four Test regulars who joined the team set up, two days after their last T20I against Australia in Brisbane.
