IND vs PAK: Abhishek Sharma on brink of breaking Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharmas T20I record in Asia Cup final
India will take on Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday. This is their first final meeting in the 41-year history of the tournament.
New Delhi: Team India will take on Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 28. The Men in Blue have already defeated Pakistan twice this season, and there is a clear gap between the two teams.
Suryakumar Yadav and Co. have gone undefeated in the Continental Tournament, with only one close game against Sri Lanka in the dead rubber. Suryakumar's form and Shubman Gill's inconsistency are still the concerning areas for India ahead of the summit clash.
Meanwhile, Pakistan will head into the final under pressure, carrying the weight of two previous defeats against India. Their batting lineup has struggled, while their bowling has also looked clueless in some games. Shaheen Shah Afridi, along with other underperforming players, will face extra pressure to make an impact in the final.
Abhishek on verge of breaking T20I records of Kohli and Rohit
Abhishek Sharma is in sensational form in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, smashing 309 runs in six matches at an average of 51.50. The attacking opening batter has notched up three consecutive fifties in the tournament and will be a serious threat for the arch-rivals.
He now has the chance of breaking two major records held by Indian superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma during the mega final against Pakistan in Dubai. Closing in on a 1000 T20I runs, Abhishek started the tournament with three consecutive 30s in the group stages, against the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and Oman. However, he also amassed three successive fifties in his last three outings during the Super Fours stage.
Having scored 309 runs in six matches, Abhishek is closing in on India batting legend Virat Kohli’s record of most runs for the nation in a multi-team T20I tournament. Kohli’s record has stood for more than 10 years. He has scored 319 runs in six innings during the 2014 World Cup, where he was adjudged the Player of the Tournament during India’s runners-up finish.
The India opener currently stands as the joint-world record holder of most successive 30-plus scores in T20I cricket, along with former India captain Rohit Sharma and Pakistan’s Mohammed Rizwan. If he manages to score one more 30-plus score in the final, then Abhishek will surpass Rohit's record
