New Delhi: South Africa are on the cusp of a massive victory in the second Test in Guwahati after India slipped in their efforts on the fourth day. When stumps were called on Tuesday at the Baraspara cricket stadium, India were at 27 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, needing another 522 runs to win going into the final day.
With Sai Sudharsan and night watchman Kuldeep Yadav at the crease for the hosts on scores of 2 and 4 respectively at day end, India have a gigantic target to chase and an impossible task of saving the Test match in three sessions on the final day. While the hosts would be keeping their fingers crossed for a miracle to happen on Wednesday, their is a big chance for the Proteas to etch their name in history books.
Having already beaten India in the series opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata last week, this seems as a bright chance for South Africa to register a 2-0 series sweep. Meanwhile, in a quest to chase 549 runs in the last innings of the match, India lost the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 13 while the seasoned KL Rahul also failed to hold grip at the crease managing just 6 runs.
It was when Kuldeep was sent in as a night watchman to tackle the remaining part of the day and he did well with Sudharsan on the other end. Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer emerged as the two wicket-takers for the Proteas in the final session of play.
Earlier, South Africa declared their second innings on a score of 260/5 with major contributions from Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi. While Stubbs (94) remained 6 runs short of a century, Zorzi was out on a score of 49 runs. Ryan Rickelton and Wiaan Mulder notched up identical scores of 35 each while Aiden Markram put up 29 runs with almost all the African batters coming into play.
For India, Ravindra Jadeja shined with the ball after he claimed 4 wickets while Washington Sundar also claimed a wicket.
