The spotlight will on star opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi as well as on skipper Ayush Mhatre when India take on USA in under-19 World Cup opener.
New Delhi: Team India begins their quest for a sixth under-19 World Cup title on Thursday when they face the USA in the opening Group A match in Bulawayo. The Indian side led by Ayush Mhatre enters the tournament in red-hot form, being the strong contenders in the 16-team event of the 16th edition of the tournament.
Out of the total editions, India have won the marquee competition five times becoming the most successful unit, followed by Australia. The India team collected a 3-2 Youth ODI series win during their tour of England last summer and were even more dominant in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup. In the continental event, they won each of their three group stage outings and their semi-final clash against Sri Lanka by lopsided margins until the final against arch-rivals Pakistan.
Their most important assignment ahead of the tournament has been the team routing South Africa u-19s on their home turf completing a 3-0 series sweep. The spotlight will on star opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi as well as on skipper Mhatre, both of whom have already taken the Indian Premier League by storm for Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings respectively.
