It is up to BCCI to decide my future: Defiant Gautam Gambhir highlights past success after Indias humiliating loss to South Africa
Under-fire head coach of the Indian cricket team Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday said that it is up to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to decide his future in the national side.
New Delhi: Under-fire head coach of the Indian cricket team Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday said that it is up to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to decide his future in the national side. These comments came after India suffered their heaviest defeat in Tests after going down against South Africa in the 2nd Test by 408 runs and subsequently lost the series.
A defiant Gambhir, at the post-match presentation, reminded everyone of the success he has attained in the past in his tenure. With discussions growing around the social media circle about Gambhir being sacked as the coach of the national side, he said that though it is for the BCCI to decide his future but everyone should remember that he is the same guy who got them results in England and was coach for Champions Trophy.
Gambhir was referring to India's title-winning run in the Champions Trophy and a firm 2-2 draw against England in their own backyard earlier this year.
'The blame lies with everyone and starts with me,' he conceded in his first reactions after the 0-2 drubbing.
'We need to play better. From 95/1 to 122/7 is not acceptable. You don't blame any individual or any particular shot. Blame lies with everyone. I never blamed individuals and won't do it going forward,' he added.
India slump to lowest under Gambhir
Under Gambhir, India have lost 10 of the total 18 Tests, including twin whitewashes against New Zealand last year and South Africa now, both at home. India's defeat against South Africa at Guwahati is their largest in terms of runs in Test cricket.
He also said that in the longest format of cricket, flamboyant and talented players are not at all required and the need is just to look for players with limited talent. Players should have tough characters to participate in the format.
