In what comes as massive blow for India, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks due to a toe injury suffered during the recently-concluded England Test series.
New Delhi: In what comes as massive blow for India, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks due to a toe injury suffered during the recently-concluded England Test series. Though Pant may not be requiring a surgery for the same but he has been advised a rest of close to two months, which means the star batter missing the Asia Cup and the West Indies series.
According to a report in the Times of India, Pant is certain to miss the continental tournament which begins from September 9 in the UAE and the two-match Test series at home against the West Indies which starts in first week of October. The dashing southpaw suffered an injury during the fourth Test match against England in Manchester.
Pant is not a regular wicketkeeper for India in the shortest format hence missing him in the forthcoming Asia Cup won't be a big issue for the team. But in the Test series against West Indies, he will have to play a pivotal role as the vice-captain and batter as displayed by the gritty player in the Test matches against England.
How did Pant get injured
During the first innings of the Manchester Test match, Pant, who was up against English pacer Chris Woakes attempted a reverse hit on a delivery which was wasn't able to connect and the ball ended up hit his right toe. The left-handed batter was crumbling in pain and when the on-field treatment from physios didn't prove helpful, he was carries off the field.
On the next day, the courageous Pant came out to bat adding some 14 runs to his last day's score. Though it seemed like a toe fracture but it was later ruled out that he suffered a fracture. With the pain continuing, he skipped the fifth and final Test match of the series.
