As per a report in ESPN Cricinfo, the Navi Mumbai police have informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the organisers that they won't be able to provide adequate security for the match on the day of the election. The matches which are scheduled to take place on the days before and after the election might also be affected.
The match between the Mumbai Indians and the UP Warriorz on January 15 will clash with the election day. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals are scheduled to take on the UP Warriorz on January 14, and the Gujarat Giants will play the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 16.
It is not confirmed if the two matches on the days before and after the election will also be played behind closed doors. The BCCI is yet to officially announce that the WPL 2026 match on January 15 will be played behind closed doors, without any spectators. The announcement might catch the fans by surprise when it is made official.
The WPL online ticket platform hasn't yet listed the tickets for sale for the matches which are scheduled to take place on January 14, 15 and 16, but there also hasn't been any announcement from the organisers despite the municipal corporation elections approaching. The WPL 2026 matches in Navi Mumbai have been a success so far this season, with thousands of fans attending the games at the DY Patil Stadium.
The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai is scheduled to host the first 11 matches in the group stage of the WPL 2026 before the league moves to Vadodara. The double header on Saturday, January 17 will be the final two matches in Navi Mumbai before the action shifts to the BCA Stadium in Kotambi, which will host nine league games, the Eliminator and the final.
