Out or not out? Pakistan batter Fakhar Zamans dismissal in Ind-Pak Super 4 clash sparks controversy
Fakhar Zaman's dismissal sparked controversy as the batter looked stunned after Sanju Samson took a low catch to give the first breakthrough to India at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 21.
New Delhi: India are taking on Pakistan in the ongoing Asia Cup in the Super 4 stage at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 21. Fakhar Zaman came out as an opener for the first time in the Asia Cup 2025 and took Jasprit Bumrah on remand in his first over.
The left-hander smashed two consecutive boundaries against India's premier bowler and added 11 runs from his first over. In the third over, Pandya trapped Fakhar with an off-cutter delivery, which edged the ball, and Sanju Samson caught a low ball behind the stumps.
Samson was confident with the catch but Fakhar showed an uncertainty over the dismissal, prompting on-field umpires to refer the decision to TV umpire.
From the two angles, one angle was showing Samson took a clean catch, but the other angle was suggesting that the ball fell to the ground before Samson caught the ball. Fakhar was given out by the third umpire, and the batter looked stunned and visibly shocked before walking to the pavilion.
After reaching the dressing room, Pakistan's head coach Mike Hesson was also not pleased with the third umpire's decision. Fakhar was dismissed on 15 runs off nine balls, he was in good touch from the start of the innings.
After the controversial dismisaal, Pakistan legends Shoaib Akhtar and Misbah-ul-haq raised questions on the decision. While, Shoaib challenged ICC to show footage from all 26 camera angles as he felt third umpire saw only two angles and rushed the decision.
But now fresh footage has been posted on social media, where Samson's gloves were underneath the ball, and the zoomed-in clip clearly proved the third umpire's decisionright.
