Days after breaking their silence over the tragic Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced a financial aid of Rs 25 lakh for the families of each victim. 11 fans lost their lives in the deadly stampede, which took place outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the franchise's IPL title celebrations in June this year.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru also shared the details of their new initiative - 'RCB CARES', through which the franchise aims to honour the victims and support their families in the future. While 11 lost their lives, many were left injured in the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB's celebrations.

"Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025. We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community & our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us," RCB said in a statement on Saturday.

"No amount of support can ever fill the space they’ve left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended ₹25 lakh each to their families. Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care," the franchise added.

In the aftermath of the incident, RCB faced intense criticism from all corners as many questioned the franchise's role in the incident. The Karantaka police also booked some RCB officials during the investigation. Meanwhile, the franchise's deafening silence on social media raised more questions than answers.

The franchise has now come forward with a new initiative to ensure long-term support for the families of the victims of the tragic stampede and has promised ongoing care as they attempt to channel their grief with action. RCB maintained that the compensation to the families of the victims is the first step of a long-term commitment.

RCB beat Punjab Kings to win maiden IPL title

Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win their maiden title. RCB successfully defended the total of 190 runs in the final to secure a thrilling victory by 6 runs despite Shashank Singh's brilliant knock of an unbeaten 61 for Punjab Kings.

Their title triumph also marked the end of Virat Kohli's 18-year-long wait for his first IPL title. However, RCB's title celebrations turned into a nightmare after a stampede broke out outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the team's celebrations inside the venue.
