New Delhi: Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has come to the rescue of the M. Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru as the iconic venue is on the verge of losing its sheen. Prasad has vowed to restore the glory of the cricket stadium as he took the first solid step towards contesting in the upcoming KSCA elections by releasing the manifesto of his panel on Wednesday.

After the tragic stampede on June 4 in which 11 lives were lost while RCB celebrated their maiden IPL triumph, none of the matches have taken place at the venue. Additionally, the Chinnaswamy stadium is also on the verge of losing next month's ICC Women’s World Cup matches. On the occasion, the former Indian pacer said that the stampede shouldn't have happened.

Additionally, he also said that they have to be very proactive in liaisoning with the state government and we have to make sure that matches are played at the iconic stadium. After revealing the manifesto, Prasad also hinted that his panel of contestants will have 16 members though he didn't name any of them at the moment.

KSCA elections in October, November

The KSCA elections are scheduled to be held in October or November as the incumbent regime headed by Raghuram Bhat completes its three-year term on September 30.

Further speaking about the stadium, the former cricketer said that they are vowed towards bringing back the lost glory as far as the stadium is concerned. He further added that they will bring back international cricket after seeing matches being moved out of Bengaluru.

The 50-year-old cricket stadium has never seen matches being moved out and it is for the first time that the ICC and BCCI are contemplating to shift the ODI women's World Cup fixtures lined up at the iconic venue. One of the main points in the manifesto is refurbishing the Chinnaswamy and transforming it into a smart stadium. The current seating capacity at the stadium is around 35000 and the team is planning to extend it to 50000.
