Rizwan frets over ODI captaincy as Pakistan call meeting
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Mike Hesson, head coach of white ball format teams, had requested chairman Mohsin Naqvi for a meeting over pressing matters.
New Delhi: Pakistan have called a meeting of its national selection committee and advisory board on Monday to discuss ODI team matters, including captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan.
In a statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Mike Hesson, head coach of white ball format teams, had requested chairman Mohsin Naqvi for a meeting over pressing matters.
"No decision has been taken on the ODI captaincy. The chairman, Mohsin Naqvi has asked the selectors and advisors to meet on Monday to discuss the matter," the PCB statement said.
Pakistan currently have three different skippers for the three formats with Shan Masood leading in Tests, Rizwan in ODIs and Salman Ali Agha in T20Is.
Rumours suggest Shaheen Shah Afridi or Salman Alli Agha could replace Rizwan and though it is believed Hesson could ask for a change at the helm, though it remains to be seen if his views find favour in the meeting.
A lot depends on what selectors Aaqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali and advisors Sarfaraz Ahmed and Sikander Bakht. It is not immediately known what their though process is.
Together with Babar Azam, keeper-batter Rizwan has been dropped from the T20 format since December 2024. Rizwan led Pakistan to ODI series victories in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
But then the team's performance went down in a tri-series at home with South Africa and New Zealand before the Champions Trophy and major events.
Pakistan failed to win the Champions Trophy at home after which they lost a series in New Zealand and West Indies.
