Rohit Sharma loses no.1 place in ODI batting ranking, Jasprit Bumrah retains top spot in Tests
Rohit Sharma has lost the No.1 spot in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings, with Daryl Mitchell becoming the first New Zealander since 1979 to climb to the top of the list.
New Delhi: Rohit Sharma's reign as the No. 1 ODI batter came to an end just weeks after his sensational hundred against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell became the top-ranked batter in the ICC Men's ODI Rankings after notching up a superb hundred against the West Indies in the first ODI.
The all-rounder's seventh ODI ton in the opening game of the three-match series proved crucial in surpassing the in-form Rohit. He became the No.1 ODI batter for the first time in his career, and only the second Kiwi to reach at the top of the ODI batting rankings. The only other Kiwi cricketer to achieve this milestone was Glenn Turner, who last held the top spot in 1979.
While several New Zealand batters, including Martin Crowe, Andrew Jones, Roger Twose, Nathan Astle, Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill and Ross Taylor, previously reached the top five, none of them managed to reach the top spot.
Pakistan cricketers also made big jumps after their 3-0 ODI whitewash against Sri Lanka. Mohammad Rizwan climbed five positions to joint 22nd, while Fakhar Zaman also jumped five places to joint 26th along with Rassie van der Dussen. Among the bowlers, spinner Abrar Ahmed climbed 11 spots to ninth, and fast bowler Haris Rauf also jumped five spots to 23rd, while Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan continues to lead the ODI bowling charts.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma reached the top five Test batters for the first time after his brilliant unbeaten 55 in the second innings of the first Test against India in Kolkata. India skipper Shubman Gill also jumped two spots to 11th despite sustaining neck stiffness during the match.
Jasprit Bumrah retains No.1 rank in Tests
Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah maintained his position at the top in men's Test bowling rankings. He took six wickets in the series opener against South Africa at Eden Gardens. Kuldeep Yadav also gained two spots to career-best 13th, and Ravindra Jadeja also jumped four places to 15th.
For South Africa, Marco Jansen climbed up to the 11th spot among Test bowlers and rose to fifth position in the all-rounders' rankings. Simon Harmer also jumped 20 spots to 24th after taking eight wickets in the Kolkata Test.
