In a tragic incident, young Bengal cricketer Priyajit Ghosh passed away due to a heart attack during a gym session. The incident has sent shockwaves in the Bengal cricket community. 22-year-old Priyajit was a promising cricketer who had played age-group cricket at district level and wanted to make it to the senior Bengal team.
As per a report in India Today, Priyajit was working out at a gym in the Mission Compound area of Bolpur on Friday, when he suffered a sudden heart attack. The 22-year-old suddenly fell ill while working out and succumbed to a heart attack. His tragic death has left his friends and family in shock and in mourning.
Priyajit was a resident of Bolpur in Birbhum district. He started playing cricket at a young age and rose through the ranks in Bengal. He played in the inter-district U-16 tournament organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) in the 2018-19 season. Priyajit finished as the highest run-getter in the tournament and was honoured with an award for the same.
The youngster wanted to become a professional cricketer and play for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. He used to attend the gym to keep a check on his fitness. However, little did his family and teammates realise that Priyajit would suffer a heart attack while working out.
His tragic death also highlights the increasing cases of heart attacks among young Indians. There have been multiple incidents where people have passed away due to heart attacks while dancing, working out or playing sports in different parts of the country. The trend highlights the poor lifestyle and diet choices among the general public.
When a man died due to heart attack after hitting a six
In June this year, a local cricketer in Punjab's Firozpur, passed away while playing a match. Harjeet Singh was playing a cricket match with his friends when he suffered a fatal heart attack. In a video of the incident that went viral on social media, Harjeet was seen hitting a six before collapsing on the ground as his friends rushed to check on him. He lost consciousness and breathed his last on the pitch as immediate efforts to revive him went in vain.
