New Delhi: Seasoned India player Shreyas Iyer has started his rehabilitation and attended his first batting session in Mumbai after recovering from an injury which he suffered during the Australia ODI series back in October.

The Indian ODI vice-captain had suffered lacerations on his spleen while taking a catch during a game against Australia which resulted in internal bleeding because of which he had to be admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

After returning to India in the middle of the series, the 31-year-old Indian cricketer was restricted to perform daily routine activities and also advised basic exercises, Iyer has to keep out of any activity that would have potentially increased his intra-abdominal pressure.

The right-handed batter had to wait for a while before resuming cricket-related activities like batting, fielding among other things only after his results tested fine in his scans.

Iyer attends first-batting session in Mumbai

As mentioned in a report on the Times of India, the Indian cricketer attended his first batting session in Mumbai on December 24, Wednesday, where he was in the nets for almost about an hour. The report further mentions that he did not feel any type of problem or discomfort during batting. It is also being mentioned that Iyer is pain-free at the moment and getting match ready.

What's next for Iyer?

Shreyas Iyer is set to move to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru to commence his rehabilitation. The report mentions that he will expectedly stay under the eyes of all the coaches and the medical team for 4 to 6 days roughly before any clarity being handed over to him.

While Iyer would be eyeing a comeback in the India vs New Zealand ODI series, there is also a possibility that the batter could feature in the last few matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. The seasoned Indian cricketer missed the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and the India vs South Africa ODI series due to injury.
