Shreyas Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi added to India’s squad for New Zealand T20Is

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made two big inclusions in India's T20I squad for the five-match series against New Zealand, commencing on January 21. Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi have made their way into the Indian squad for the five games against the Kiwis, which will follow the ODI series that ends on Sunday.

The BCCI, late on Friday evening, confirmed the same in a post on social media site X. While Iyer comes as a replacement for injured Tilak Varma, who was ruled out of the first three matches while all-rounder Bishnoi comes in as a replacement for Washington Sundar who was ruled out of the series due to an injury.

Sundar might miss T20 WC

Sundar underwent scans after reporting an acute onset discomfort in his lower rib area while bowling during the first ODI against New Zealand at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara. The star all-rounder has been diagnosed with a side strain and has been advised rest for a few days after which he will report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for further management of his injury.

It is also being learnt that Sundar might be on the lines of missing the T20 World Cup 2026 as well if he fails to be match-fit before that. The showpiece event begins on February 7.

Meanwhile, Iyer, who recovered from an injury, is looking good in the ongoing ODI series against the Kiwis. The seasoned batter will be playing a T20I match after a gap of more than 2 years, since he last featured in a match back in December 2023.
