Shubman Gill carrying water purifier a routine practice, not related to Indore water contamination - Report
Shubman Gill was spotted carrying his personal water purifier as the Indian team arrived in Indore for the 3rd ODI against New Zealand earlier this week.
Team India skipper Subman Gill, carrying a personal water purifier, is reportedly part of his fitness routine, and the move was not linked to the water contamination incident in Indore. Gill was spotted with a personal water purifier as the Indian team arrived in Indore earlier this week for the third ODI against New Zealand at the Holkar Stadium in the city.
The move came into spotlight after the recent water contamination case in Indore, Bhagirathpura. Over 20 peope have lost their lives and multiple are admitted in hospital following a vomiting and diarrhoea outbreak in the area due to drinking contaminated water.
Rumours spread on social media that the Indian skipper was carrying a personal water purifier in the aftermath of the incident. However, as per a report in Cricbuzz, Indian team's sources revealed that Gill's personal water purifier has been part of his fitness routine for a while now.
Gill reportedly started the practice of carrying his personal water purifier to maintain strict hydration standards after recovering from dengue last year. The machine that the Indian cricketer carries is designed to further treat drinking water, including RO-filtered or bottled drinking water.
The machine was installed in Gill's room in Team India's hotel in Indore. Such water purifiers are commonly used by top sportspersons across disciplines to maintain hydration and hygiene standards. However, barring Gill, no Indian cricketer was spotted carrying any such purifier as the team arrived in Indore for the third ODI against New Zealand earlier this week.
India take on New Zealand in 3rd ODI
India locked horns with visitors New Zealand in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18. The series is on the line for the hosts after New Zealand defeated India by 7 wickets in the 2nd ODI in Rajkot to draw level at 1-1. India will look to win the third ODI to keep their unbeaten ODI series record intact against the Kiwis at home.
Gill has been in fine form in the ODI series with back-to-back half-centuries in the first two matches. The Indian skipper scored 56 runs in the series opener in Vadodara and followed it up with another 56-run knock in the second game in Rajkot. He will be hoping to help India clinch the series with a decisive win in the third ODI in Indore on Sunday.
