New Delhi: Gujarat Giants thrashed UP Warriorz by 45 runs in a Women's Premier League 2026 clash in Vadodara on Thursday to bag their third win. After Sophie Devine excelled with the bat in the first innings, Gujarat bowlers were successful in defending a moderate total of just 153 runs to get to a convincing win.

Rajeshwari Gayakwad starred with the ball for side claiming three wickets and giving away just 16 runs her four-over spell while Renuka Singh Thakur proved to be the next best bowler with figures of 2 for 20. Rest of bowlers in the queue also contributed with a wicket each to dent the UP batters in what could have been an easy chase.

For the Warriorz, Phoebe Litchfield top-scored with 32 runs while Chloe Tryon proved to be the next best batter with a score of unbeaten 30 runs. Skipper Meg Lanning started off the things well at the top order but could not take her score beyond 14 runs while rest of the batters from the side struggled in front of a disciplined bowling line up.

Sophie Devine returns to form 

Earlier in the game, Sophie Devine returned to form with a composed unbeaten half-century as Gujarat Giants overcame hiccups to post 153 for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs. Entering the match after three consecutive ducks, the New Zealand player smashed a fifty off just 42 balls including three sixes and two fours making the most of the impact.

Beth Mooney had earlier contributed with a score of 38 runs while rest of the batters failed to showcase some courage in front of the UP bowlers. Sophie Ecclestone and Kranti Gaud claimed two wickets apiece for the UP side while Deepti Sharma and Tryon also contributed with a scalp each to restrict the Giants to a moderate total.

In a total of six matches, Gujarat have three wins and as many defeats while for UP, this was their fourth loss.
