Cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli were among the billions Indians to mourn the demise of iconic Bollywood actor Dharmendra. Dubbed as the 'He-Man', due to his powerful on-screen persona, Dharmendra breathed his last in Mumbai aged 89, on Monday, November 24, 2025.
Unwell for a while, Dharmendra was recently admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai, before being discharged on November 12. He reportedly showed signs of recovery, prompting his family members to continue his treatment at home.
As the tragic news broke, tributes started pouring in on social media with several celebrities and fans mourning the death of their favourite star.
Kohli and Sachin also paid tributes to Dharmendra, describing him as a "legend" and "icon" of Indian cinema.
"Today, we have lost a legend of Indian cinema who captivated hearts with his charm and his talent. A true icon who inspired everyone who watched him. May the family find strength in this tough time. My sincere condolences to the whole family," Kohli wrote on X.
Sachin paid a rich tribute to the legendary actor
"I, like many others, took an instant liking to Dharmendra ji, the actor, who entertained us with his versatility. That on-screen bond became stronger off-screen when I met him. His energy was incredibly infectious, and he would always tell me, “Tumko dekhkar ek kilo khoon badh jaata hai mera.” He had an effortless warmth, making everyone around him feel valued and special. It was impossible not to be a fan of the person he was. Today, my heart feels heavy with his passing. Aisa lagta hai jaise mera 10 kilo khoon kam ho gaya hai. Will miss you," Tendulkar posted on X.
The legendary artist was set to turn 90 on December 8. He enjoyed a stellar 65-year career, featuring in over 300 films, including all-time classics like Chupke Chupke, Anupama, Sholay and Seeta Aur Geeta. He also donned a producer's hat and briefly served as a Member of Parliament (MP). Dharmendra was bestowed with the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, India’s third-highest civilian honour, in 2012.
