New Delhi: The fourth T20I between India and South Africa was abandoned due to excessive fog in Lucknow on Wednesday evening. After multiple inspections were conducted from 6.30 PM IST, the match was finally called off by the officials at around 9.30 PM IST leaving the fans fumed.
All the spectators who had thronged to the stadium demanded an immediate refund of tickets as they could not witness even a single ball being bowled because of the visibility being extremely poor. In response a day later on Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) confirmed that they would begin a swift ticket refund process from Friday ensuring that all the spectators get their money back.
Prem Manohar Gupta, the secretary of UPCA confirmed on December 18 that all the arrangements for the quick reimbursements of the ticket are being done and the spectators will get their money back in both online and offline mode. It was further notified that while the spectators who purchased the ticket offline will get the entire money refunded, for the online ones, the service charges would be deducted.
It is further being notified that the UPCA will set up booths at the Ekana stadium and the people who purchased offline tickets can get their entire money from the booths itself. An advertisement regarding the same will also be put in the newspaper so that the people get to know about the refund.
The secretary further said that they tried their best to ensure that play starts at the stadium but could not do much in front of God's will which was against the game. Meanwhile, India lead the five-match series 2-1 and from here, the hosts cannot lose the series even if the South African side wins the final game in Ahmedabad. While India will try to win the series, the Proteas will try their level best to secure a draw.
