New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are set to make their much-awaited return to the Indian ODI squad for the Australia tour. Excitement is building among fans as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to pick the squad for the ODI squad on Saturday, October 4.

All eyes will be on Kohli and Rohit as both players retired from Test and T20I format and fans want to see the duo on the field for the 50-over format. With both players last seen in Blue jersey in March 2025 as Rohit-led India to win Champions Trophy after 12 years.

Kohli smashed a match-winning hundred knock against arch-rivals Pakistan and was the top-scorer in the semi-final against Australia. Whereas, Rohit played a match-winning knock against New Zealand in the final.

Some speculations came about that it might be a chance that neither veteran will get any opportunity, as selectors are looking to build a squad for the next ODI World Cup in 2027.

Rohit had a fantastic record in the white-ball format as a leader, and Kohli remains a vital part of the side. It would become unfair if Kohli and Rohit didn't get any chance before getting dropped from the ODI setup, as both gave their 100% in the ODI World Cup 2023, where India lost the final against Australia.

Shubman Gill might rest for ODIs

According to the reports, India's 50-over vice-captain might be rested for the upcoming Australia tour as Shubman Gill is consistently playing cricket without any rest and currently he is leading India in red-ball format against West Indies.

Abhishek Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be in line to replace Gill in the squad. Abhishek had a great Asia Cup campaign, and he was asked to play List A games against Australia A, which shows that he has an upper hand on selection over Jaiswal in the Australia Tour.
