Virat Kohli leapfrogs Shubman Gill in ODI rankings, Rohit maintains top spot
Virat Kohli surpassed Shubman Gill in the current ODI rankings released on Wednesday to sit on the fourth position. Rohit Sharma has maintained the top spot.
New Delhi: Star India batter Virat Kohli has leapfrogged Shubman Gill in the latest ODI rankings released on Wednesday after his heroics in the first ODI against South Africa. Kohli, who smashed his 52nd ODI hundred in Ranchi, has jumped to the fourth spot with 751 rating points.
Meanwhile Rohit Sharma has maintained his place at the summit as a result of his his half-century knock in the first ODI against the Proteas. Meanwhile Gill has dropped a place with 738 rating points to his name while Kohli is just 32 points off Rohit, who has 783 to his name. While Kohli scored 135 runs, Rohit impressed the crowd with a 57-run knock.
Gill not part of ODI series
The star batter has not been at the top spot in the rankings since 2021 and has a big chance to do that with two more matches remaining in the series. The reason behind Gill slipping in rankings is that he has not been a part of the ODI series due to a neck spasm, that also kept him out of the second Test match last month.
On the other hand, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell has 766 rating points, and he is followed closely by Ibrahim Zadran of Afghanistan, with 764 to his name. Shreyas Iyer, who is out due to an injury sustained on the white-balls tour of Australia, maintained his spot on ninth in the batting list. Meanwhile in the bowlers rankings, left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav gained one spot to occupy the sixth position in the latest rankings.
In the Test batter's list, Indian dashing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued to be at number 9, while Gill slid one place down to the 12th spot. Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was also on a downward spiral, moving down from 12th to 14th.
In the rankings for the Test bowlers, India's premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah remained on top of the pile with 879 points, well clear of New Zealand pacer Matt Henry (846).
